Real Madrid aim to turn around their recent record against rivals Atletico Madrid when they meet in the quarter-finals of the Champion’s League on Tuesday.

The two clubs faced off in the final last season, with Los Blancos prevailing in dramatic circumstances to lift their 10th European crown in Lisbon.

In the six meetings since that Champions League final last May, Diego Simeone’s side have truly dominated things by going six games without defeat in all competitions.

The Spanish champions beat Real to win the season’s Super Cup, knocked them out of the King’s Cup and have beaten them twice in La Liga.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti says neither side start as favourites.

“We have a 50% chance,” he said. “That doesn’t change the attitude, mentality and idea that we have, which is to play to make the most of the quality of the players that we have.

“Diego Simeone is a great coach. He has shown that in every aspect – he’s one of the best in the world.

Real’s mediocre performance this season saw them pick up just four points from a possible twelve in March. They have however managed to win three games in succession since the start of April, scoring 14 goals in that time and conceding just one. They now trail league leaders Barcelona by two points at the top of the La Liga table.

Ancelotti described Real’s 4-0 humiliation the last time they visited the Vicente Calderon as his worst game in charge of Madrid. However, unlike that meeting when they were without five first-team regulars, Real are at full strength for the first time in five months.

Gareth Bale is back with the squad after missing Saturday’s 3-0 La Liga win over Eibar with a minor muscle injury. James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos are also back from suspension.
