Bayern Munich have a tough task on their hands as they bid to overhaul a 3-0 first leg deficit in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
In last week’s opening leg at Camp Nou, Bayern matched Barca for 75 minutes until Lionel Messi scored two brilliant goals and Neymar added a third to take control of the tie.
However, already crowned Bundesliga champions, the defeat may be of little consequence to Bayern and chief executive Rummenigge is hoping his club can achieve what is seemingly an impossible task.
“It is going to be very hard,” he said. “Barcelona were the favourites in the first place and after the game that status grew. This is normal when you get this sort of result. But nonetheless, it is the duty of Bayern Munich to put on their best performance on Tuesday.
“We will see if it will be enough. Our chances are very, very small, but in football there is always one game in a century where you can turn the tides.”
Barcelona are chasing a club-record 48th win of the season in all competitions. Real Madrid’s failure to beat Valencia has brought them closer to the Liga title and they also have one foot in the final of the Champions League after the result of the first leg.
Barca will also compete in the Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid later this month, much thanks to an attacking trio that is too hot for most rivals to handle.
Between them, Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez have contributed 119 goals to Barcelona’s season so far. Their collective talents have seen them win all of their last eight matches, scoring 28 goals and keeping seven consecutive clean sheets.
Defender Marc Bartra said the Catalan side’s aim was to go to Munich to win, but he is wary of Bayern’s quarter-final comeback against Porto.
“We know it will not be easy, because we saw what happened there to Porto, so we need to go out and have a big game,” he said.
The German champions are without wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, who are both out for the season, while Barcelona are at full strength heading into Tuesday’s clash.

Barcelona are on a blistering run of form at the moment and, even though their brilliant 6-1 turnaround against Porto in the quarter finals may offer some hope for Bayern, reversing a 3-0 deficit against an in-form Barcelona may be a step too far.
