Champions League Betting Preview

Manchester City need to bounce back against Roma on Tuesday after losing their first Champions League group game 1-0 to Bayern Munich earlier this month. Check out my game preview and betting tips below.

City will be keen to get off the mark when they host Roma in their second Group E clash. Roma surged to an impressive 5-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in their first game and Manuel Pellegrini’s men will have to work hard to get past Roma’s excellent defence.

Since their opening Group E game, City have drawn with Premier League table toppers Chelsea and have beaten both Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, scoring a massive 11 goals in those two victories.

Defender Zabaleta commented, “Our job is to try to keep winning games and now we need to turn the page and just think about Champions League.

“We lost the first game against Bayern Munich. Now we play Roma at home and we know how important it is to win that game. It’s going to be another tough game because Roma are a good team but hopefully we can play well and get three points.”

Pellegrini will be putting Joe Hart back in goal having benched him in favour of Argentine Willy Caberllero for the last couple of games. The City boss stated that Hart’s absence was simply a decision based on squad rotation but that he would return for the game against Roma.

“It’s a crucial game because Roma won their first match and we lost,” he said. “It will be a very tough group and we cannot drop points here at home. It’s very important for us to win that game.”

Betting Odds:

City have won just two of their last seven games at the Etihad Stadium in this competition but enter their second Group E game as favourites to take home three points – priced at 13/20 at Betfair.

Rudi Garcia’s men are 4/1 to win what would be their seventh consecutive victory in all competitions.

A draw is offered at 3/1 and considering that City have drawn two of their last three Premier League games this could well be a realistic shout.

Carl Calls It: History is not on Roma’s side for this clash having only won once in their last 14 visits to England. I’ll be betting on City to win 2-1 which will return £85 for a £10 bet at Betfair.  Remember if you’re a new customer you’ll also get a big £50 Welcome when you join.
