Chelsea and Manchester City meet for the second time this season as they tussle for top spot in the Premier League, but with both teams missing key players the result could be a difficult one to call. Take a look at our preview and betting tips below for an idea of what to expect on Saturday.

When the two sides clashed at the Etihad back in September Chelsea were 5 points clear at the top of the table ahead of champions Manchester City. Neither team were able to make any real impact and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

City now travel to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea again 5 points ahead of them at the top of the Premier League.

Chelsea are disadvantaged in having had a far shorter rest period after winning their League Cup semi-final clash against Liverpool in extra time, although manager Jose Mourinho prefers a more packed schedule for his men so fatigue shouldn’t be a real issue.

For City winning this game is key in their bid to retain the Premier League title. Winger Jesus Navas commented, “We need to go there with maximum attitude. It would be something very big to win the title two years in a row. But we need three points against Chelsea to close the gap.”

Both sides will be looking to redeem themselves from embarrassing early exits against lower league sides in the FA Cup last weekend, so it’ll certainly be a tightly fought game.

Throwing a spanner into the mix for Chelsea is the likely absence of top striker Diego Costa who faces a three match ban after being charged by the FA for violent conduct during the Liverpool game. The Blues will also be without Branislav Ivanovic (foot), Felipe Luis (calf) and Cesc Fabregas (hamstring) who picked up small injuries in the same game.

City expect Frank Lampard to have recovered in time from his hip injury to make his return to Stamford Bridge, but will be forced to play without Ivoirians Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony as their home nation books a spot in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.
