Chelsea kick off their 2015/16 Premier League campaign when they welcome Swansea City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Blues dominated English football last year in an incredible season that resulted in a Premier League title as well as a Capital One Cup when they overcame Tottenham at Wembley in March.
Though Chelsea didn’t get off to the winning start they hoped for in the Community Shield when they lost 1-0 to Arsenal last weekend, they will come into his season full of confidence, after managing penalty victories over both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in pre-season.
This summer has been a relatively quiet one for Jose Mourinho who has just tweaked his squad as they look to build on their title-winning 2014/15 season. The Portuguese coach has signed a new back-up goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and put faith in Radamel Falcao to re-find the form of his Atletico Madrid days.
Diego Costa continues to be bothered by hamstring injuries and was absent in the defeat to Arsenal. Devoid of any quality options behind him, Chelsea face the dilemma of staying pat and hope to generate enough offense while Costa is on the shelf, or dive into the transfer market for a quality striker.
Last season, Chelsea did well in both matches against Swansea, scoring no less than nine goals and securing the full six points. The new season opening matches, however, tend to be complicated and, for that reason, José Mourinho’s men need to put up a solid performance in order to avoid any major upset.
For a fourth straight season, Swansea continues to defy the odds in the Premier League. Firmly placed in the middle of the league in each of the first three seasons, Swansea took home the Capital One Cup in 2013 — which included a two-legged win over Chelsea. Last season, Swansea famously did the double over Manchester United and Arsenal.
Having spent the majority of their history in the lower leagues, they’re quickly becoming an established top half side in the top tier and a force to be reckoned with for most clubs in the division.
Swansea had a good overall performance last season finishing in the 8th place with 56 points from 38 matches, just four points behind Southampton, who snatched the last place that offered European football this term.
The Swans have only won one match during the pre-season. They have, however, not been defeated in any of the five fixtures they’ve taken part in.
Chelsea vs Swansea Betting Tips
This should result in a comfortable win for Chelsea. Swansea may be well clear of the relegation zone this season, but they lack the overall quality to test the league champions in front of their home support. We are expecting a 2-1 Chelsea victory priced at 15/2 with Skybet.
