Chelsea and Tottenham Hot Spurs will go head to head at Wembley Stadium this Sunday in the Capital One Cup Final.

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho failed to win a trophy during his first season back at Stamford Bridge and Spurs haven’t won a trophy since 2008 when they beat Chelsea at the Carling Cup final.

This could be one of the best League Cup finals for some time with Chelsea eager to avenge their 5-3 defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.

Chelsea were not in their best shape during the two-legged semi-final encounter against Liverpool, leaving it until extra-time before a header from Branislav Ivanovic sealed their 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

The suspension of Nemanja Matic, after being sent off against Burnley at the weekend, is a serious blow for the Blues. Matic is a highly influential player in the midfield anchor role and they don’t have a like-for-like replacement for him.

“It will be an advantage,” Mourinho said about Matic’s suspension. “In football an advantage is an advantage.”

But despite Mourinho’s worries about the strength of Tottenham, he is happy to be facing such a tough opponent.

“In England I have been lucky because sometimes you don’t play finals against big clubs,” he added. “But every final I have played was against a big club.”

Both teams are considered top performers for different reasons. Chelsea are five points clear at the top of the Premier League and leading scorers with the highest goal difference +34 contrasted with Spurs +5. The Blues have opened the scoring 20 times in 26 league matches and gone on to win 15 of those.

Tottenham have salvaged 13 points with goals from the 85th minute onwards in the league, which is testament to their fitness levels. Spurs, however, will be battling fatigue having endured a Thursday night Europa League match at Fiorentina just three days before the final.

According to Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham must recover fast from their Europa League loss to Fiorentina, but with eleven goals scored between Chelsea and Spurs in the two league meetings this season, Pochettino’s men could play their part in a brilliant final.

It’s tempting to run with Chelsea on this one. Although Spurs have shown themselves to be a solid side this season, they’re in a position of disadvantage, having just come back from a gruelling defeat in Italy.

The absence of Matic will hurt Chelsea, but they should still have enough to overcome Spurs in this highly anticipated League Cup final.

We are feeling a 2-1 Chelsea victory priced at 15/2 with Skybet with Diego Costa to score the first goal at 3/1 with Betway.
