Tottenham have their work cut out for them when they face an undefeated Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Luckily for the visitors, Chelsea will be without Diego Costa as the club’s star striker picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Sunderland. Jose Mourinho is likely to replace the Spain international with Loic Remy or Didier Drogba and is said not to be worried about his star striker’s absence.

Tottenham’s rising star Harry Kane thinks differently, however, and his hoping a resurgent Spurs will be able to take full advantage of Costa’s ban.

“We’re full of confidence,” said the 21-year-old. “Obviously we are coming off three wins in a row now in all competitions so we’ll take that confidence into the game on Wednesday.

“We’re looking to get the result. Chelsea are going to be trying to do the same at home, but they are missing their main man up front. So they have to change a few things, and we’re feeling good.

“The Chelsea game is not the be-all or end-all, but it would add to the great momentum we have at the moment if we could beat them.”

Chelsea’s draw against Sunderland at the weekend was only the third time this league season that they’ve failed to win a game and the first time they’ve failed to score. The Blues hold onto a strong lead at the top, although the cushion over second place has been cut to six points by Man City.

Mourinho’s men have not conceded in their last three games and have an impressive record at Stamford Bridge against Tottenham.

Spurs have never beaten Chelsea at home in the Premier League and have failed to record a victory over the West London club in almost 25 years.

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois commented on the significance of the upcoming fixtures.

“It’s an important week with two difficult games,” he said. “First a derby against Tottenham in front of our own fans and then we go away to Newcastle, which will be tough.

“It’s an important month and we will try to win as many games as we can.”
