Europa League Betting Preview

Tottenham take on Turkish side Besiktas while Everton play Russian newcomers Krasnodar in Thursday’s Europa League group games. Check out my game previews below for predictions and Europa League betting tips for the evening’s action.

Europa League Betting: Tottenham v Besiktas

Tottenham host Besiktas in the second of their Europa League Group C games on Thursday and will be looking for a repeat of their weekend performance.

Although Spurs drew against Arsenal on Saturday, the calibre of football they displayed was much higher than during other recent games, most notably while losing against both West Brom and Sunderland.

“The most important thing for myself, the players and the staff is that we showed a strength of mentality, we were strong on the pitch,” said Tottenham midfielder Younes Kaboul.

“We move on. This game is done, now we need to focus on Besiktas on Thursday. If we play the same way we did at Arsenal, we should have no problems, but we need to repeat that. We have set the tone.”

In the first of their Group C fixtures, Tottenham played Partizan resulting in a goalless draw, whilst Besiktas drew 1-1 against Asteras Tripolis.

Besiktas also drew in their Turkish Süper Lig clash against Eskisehirspor on Saturday with manager Slaven Bilic unimpressed with their performance.

“Honestly, we didn’t deserve a win as we failed to create sufficient chances, especially in the second half,” he said. “Now we must focus on our Europa League match against Tottenham. It is not going to be any easier.”

The two sides have only met once before, in 2006, when Hossam Ghaly and Dimitar Berbatov led Spurs to a 2-0 victory.

Without the injured Kyle Walker and with Danny Rose’s fitness in question, Tottenham will be playing with a weakened defence, whilst Besiktas have doubts about striker Mustafa Pektemek.

Carl Calls It:

If Tottenham remain focused against Besiktas then they’ll take the win at home, although I’ll be betting on both teams to score. Betfair have Tottenham to win 2-1 priced at 15/2 which will return £85 on a £10 bet.

Europa League Betting: FK Krasnodar v Everton

Everton are several men down as they take on Krasnodar at the Kuban Stadium on Thursday for the second of their Europa League group games.

Defender Seamus Coleman has been side-lined with a hamstring problem for Everton’s last three fixtures whilst Sylvain Distin and Steven Pienaar have also been absent for several games due to injury.

Midfielder James McCarthy is also among the injured deemed not fit enough to make the trip.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has admitted that some of his team had also been suffering with a virus ahead of last weekend’s Merseyside derby, but is hopeful that those affected are back to full fitness for tomorrow’s clash.

“We are going to assess them individually,” he said. “Everyone is progressing well and in a good position to be fully fit very soon.

“There were a couple of players that were a little bit affected by viruses and a little bit ill. They got through the Liverpool game really well and now we will assess them to make sure that they are fully fit for Thursday.

“That’s the only thing I am looking at – to make sure that everyone who is travelling to Russia is fully fit and can cope with a demanding trip and a difficult game.”

Everton’s opening Group H game against Wolfsburg resulted in an impressive 4-1 home victory, however Thursday’s clash will be venturing into the unknown as the two sides have never met before.

Krasnodar may be newcomers to the Europa League but the side has been performing impressively in recent years and is backed by some serious financial clout.

Carl Calls It:

If you’re thinking of betting on Krasnodar v Everton then I’d back the Blues for victory. Despite their weakened team they’ve got a strong edge over European rookies Krasnodar. Predicting the score might be tricky considering these two sides have never played before, so I’d put my money on a straight forward Everton win at 2/1 with Betfred.
