Liverpool Close in on a Bid for Moreno and Manquillo
Managing Director for Liverpool FC Ian Ayre has this morning flown out to Spain in an attempt to seal the deal on a double swoop. The targets in question are of course defenders Moreno and Manquillo, who’ve both been showing a lot of promise in La Liga.
Boss Brendan Rodgers was hoping to tap into left-back Moreno’s talent but had all but given up on a signing since Seville were pushing for £20m. Now, all of a sudden, it appears that an agreement might have been made as Ayre takes a trip to Spain to secure not just Moreno but right-back Manquillo, too.
Manquillo, 20, currently based at Atletico Madrid, may join his fellow Spaniard at Anfield as Liverpool hope to secure the budding player on a two-year loan.
Manchester United Haggle Hummels… but They Might Need Some Help From Nemeses Liverpool!
Van Gaal’s already taken some serious steps since taking on Alex Ferguson’s old team, so all eyes are on the Dutch manager to see how he handles this season’s transfers. Right now Manchester United are closing in on a potentially pivotal deal for World Cup winner Mats Hummels, but strangely it might only come off with a little bit of help from their friends arch-rivals Liverpool.
It looked at first like Louis van Gaal was fighting a losing battle for Borussia Dortmund centre-half Hummels until late last night when the clubs finally settled on a £20 million transfer.
The agreement came about after the top Bundesliga side also began negotiations with Liverpool about taking Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori on loan. Essentially the 21-year-old would act as Hummels replacement in Dortmund, freeing him up for a move to Manchester United.
If the deal comes off, United will be well underway to creating a team that can seriously compete at the top level in this year’s Premier League, so let’s watch this space…!
