Hull vs Burnley | Saturday 9 May, 2015 | KC Stadium | 15.00
Burnley visit the KC Stadium this weekend after their survival hopes suffered a 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Monday.
After back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Crystal Palace, the loss at the Emirates left the Tigers 17th, one point above the relegation zone. With Tottenham and Manchester United still to play, Steve Bruce knows the visit fromBurnley could be crucial.
“We’ve still got it all to do,” he said.
“The Burnley game is not going to keep us up or send us down because there are still two games after that.
“But it’s a big game, we’re aware of that, so a result would be good.”
The Tigers have won four of their eight home games since the turn of the year, taking 13 points from a possible 24. However, Burnley are used to getting the better of the Tigers, winning eight of the last nine meetings dating back to 2008. Despite their poor record, Bruce believes the trend can be bucked with calm heads.
“We’re mindful of that [record] but we’re at home and we’ve got our supporters behind us. It’s all to play for,” the manager said.
The significance of Burnley’s visit to the KC Stadium is huge and they cannot afford any slip-ups. With eight points adrift of safety after four straight defeats, Sean Dyche’s men need to finish the season with three consecutive wins to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.
The Clarets have won just five games all season and Dyche admits that record hurts.
“What’s happened in the last couple of games it’s left us in a position where if we get out of this one it is kind of folklore, probably for all and certainly for ourselves,” he said.
“But we are still alive and we move forward.”
He added “I don’t enjoy things when we’re not winning. That’s how I have always been. I was as a kid, I was as a player, as a coach and I am as a manager.”
Michael Duff is available for the Clarets after having the red card he received in a 1-0 defeat at West Ham rescinded on appeal.
