Leicester City face Newcastle United on Saturday as the Premier League teams join the FA Cup for the third round. With Saturday marking their fourth match in just eight days, fatigue could be a real problem for both sides.

Alan Pardew leaves Newcastle this week to start work at Crystal Palace after four years struggling for creative control as manager for the Magpies, resigning after several calls for his removal earlier this season. Pardew’s former assistant manager John Carver is assuming caretaker duties for the club for the time being and will be hoping find victory at Leicester on Saturday.

Newcastle will be without star striker Papiss Cisse after he earned a three-match ban for violent conduct against Everton on Sunday and Tim Krul continues to recover from an ankle injury, meaning Jan Alnwick will likely continue in goal.

The Magpies looked set to beat 3-2 Burnley on Thursday before George Boyd scored a late equaliser, showing that Newcastle are capable of putting up a good fight despite the loss of their manager.

Meanwhile Leicester will be hoping that the FA Cup clash will be a fresh start for the side, bringing them more success than the League has so far this year. The Foxes have won just three games so far this season and currently sit at the bottom of the table, although a win against Hull on Sunday followed by a draw away to Liverpool this week have been a welcome boost in confidence for the struggling club.

Andy King is a doubt for the match along with Kasper Schmeichel who remains sidelined with a foot injury.

Nigel Pearson has admitted that he may be forced to make several changes to his team due to fatigue from the busy festive schedule.

In the last four FA Cup seasons Newcastle have made it to Round Four just once, while Leicester have made it past the third round on two occasions.

When the two sides met in the Premier League earlier this season Newcastle managed to clinch a 1-0 victory in a very tight game.
