Liverpool host Swansea City on Monday as the Reds attempt to build on the momentum of last week’s victory over Burnley.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have struggled this season but will be hoping that their 1-0 Boxing Day victory was the start of a comeback.

Swansea City currently sit three points ahead of their opponents making the tie crucial for both sides. A victory for Liverpool will see them draw level on points with Garry Monk’s men, while a Swans’ win will see them overtake Tottenham in the table.

Brendan Rodgers has given Simon Mignolet a second chance in goal after having dropped him indefinitely a fortnight ago. The Belgian made a return at Burnley after his replacement Brad Jones suffered a thigh injury and looks set to play again at Anfield on Monday.

Simon is a resilient character and, like everyone, has taken a wee bit of flak,” commented Brendan Rodgers on Mignolet. “He had a couple of edgy moments yesterday and he will recognise that, but he ended the game with a clean sheet and that will help with his confidence and that of the team.”

Rodgers went on to discuss Liverpool’s chances against Swansea, stating, “It’s a very difficult game. I know Swansea very well.

“We had a very good performance against them in the League Cup at home [2-1]. Garry Monk has done very well. We’re in contact fairly regularly and I spoke to him the other day. It’s a well-established way of working and way of playing.

“But we now have two games at home after a really good result for us yesterday. We’ll arrive into this game and hopefully continue in that mantra and get another three points.”

As well as Jones, Rodgers remains without Daniel Sturridge (thigh), Jon Flanagan (knee) and Glen Johnson (groin), while Joe Allen and Dejan Lovren remain doubtful.

Swansea City will take to the pitch without Jefferson Montero who suffered a hamstring injury against Aston Villa in the Swans’ 1-0 Boxing Day victory.

Liverpool vs Swansea City Betting Tips

Liverpool are favourites to win at home but given their recent unpredictable form you’ll be better off backing Swansea with great odds at 4/1 with Betway.

Gerrard looks good to score at home at 13/5 but Wilfried Bony is the biggest threat at Anfield tonight and is your best bet for first goal scorer at 13/2, both with Paddy Power.
