The highlight of this weekend’s Premier League will undoubtedly be the clash between Man City and Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday.

There is rarely a dull moment when these sides meet and we’ll be sure to see plenty of goals in what looks set to be a highly contentious game.

City are in a close title duel with Chelsea right now after catching up with the Blues on New Year’s Day. Chelsea pulled ahead again last week however when City could only find a draw against Everton, putting 2 points between them.

Man City’s response to falling back appears to be to go out a spend £25 million on 2014’s top scorer, Wilfried Bony, which could be the boost they need to see them retain the Premier League title in 2015. Bony, however, is currently on international duty with Ivory Coast so won’t feature in the weekend’s clash against Arsenal.

Manuel Pellegrini will be relieved by Sergio Aguero’s return to fitness after he struggled through the final 25 minutes at Goodison Park with a knee problem. Aguero has already scored 19 goals this season and is likely to start at the Etihad on Sunday.

After a few issues at the start of the season, Pellegrini’s men are now 12 matches unbeaten – a streak that has included nine wins – compared to a far more inconsistent form from Arsenal, who have won just four wins in 11.

The Gunners are currently sitting in the uncomfortable position of fifth in the table and will be fighting for the three points that could take them back within the top four on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s men have a poor record playing away to City, having only won one of their last seven games at the Etihad. However Wenger has insisted that their past record against City will have little impact on Sunday’s game, showing confidence in his team’s ability to take the three points.

“You have many games when you know you will be judged on your potential,” he said. “Manchester City is one of them.

“They have always had good teams but we have won at Manchester City. The history will not play a big part in this game. It’s the performance on the day that is the only important part.

“I believe we have consistency. I believe we have the potential now to be much more stable [than last year] and to show that we can do it.

“We want to have a good balance between attacking and defending because we know that City attack very well, so it’s important that we do both sides of the game very well.”

The last seven games between these sides have resulted in 28 goals, nine of which were scored in December 2013’s 6-3 home victory for City. There have also been six red cards in the last nine matches between the sides, highlighting just how intense the rivalry is between these two sides.
