Manchester City vs Aston Villa | Saturday 25 April, 2015 | Etihad Stadium | 17.30

Manchester City host Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium this Saturday, hoping to build on last week’s victory against West Ham.

A disastrous run post-Christmas – when they were level on points with Chelsea – has left them 12 points off the top and Manuel Pellegrini’s side now lie fourth in the Premier League, a point behind Manchester United and one further adrift of Arsenal.

They won’t finish the season with any silverware, having been knocked out of the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in early rounds.

Last week’s win ended their two-week losing streak and they head into Saturday’s game needing a win to boost their fight for the top-four finish.

French full-back, Gael Clichy is battling to be fit for Saturday after missing the match against West Ham, but says that his team are determined to end their disappointing season positively with the runner up spot still within reach.

A win for City on Saturday will put the champions back into second spot, even just for a few hours as Arsenal and Manchester United are both in action on Sunday.

“Even if we can’t win anything this season, we owe it to our fans and ourselves to end on a high” the Frenchman said.

As for Villa, they will head into the game full of confidence after their 2-1 FA cup victory against Liverpool last weekend.

Since Tim Sherwood’s arrival in February, Villa have greatly boosted their chances of avoiding the drop, climbing four points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend’s trip to the Etihad Stadium.

“I’m hoping the semi-final will give us a boost, especially on the back of the Tottenham result as well,” Sherwood said.

“We’ll need the fans to create the same backing and atmosphere as they did at Wembley.

“There’s probably never a good time to play Man City but we have to play them. They’ve shown they are beatable, even at the Etihad. We’ll go there and try to win.”

Villa boast the best travelling record of the bottom six, having won five times away from home this season, including on two of their last three away fixtures, and this could be decisive in the survival battle.

Manchester City vs Aston Villa Betting Tips

Manchester City enter this game with twice as many points as Aston Villa, and despite Villa’s impressive display in the FA Cup semi-finals, we believe that there’s enough talent on the Man City team to secure all three points on Saturday.

We are feeling a 2-1 victory for Manchester City, priced at 8/1 with William Hill with Sergio Aguero to score the first goal priced at 5/2 with Betway.
