Manchester City vs QPR | Sunday 10 May, 2015 | Etihad Stadium | 13.30
Queen Park Rangers visit the Etihad Stadium on Sunday knowing that a win is their only chance of surviving relegation.
The Hoops have 27 points and are six points adrift of safety with only three games remaining. It is a difficult situation for any side to be in as they now have to win all three games while hoping for the results to go their way elsewhere.
A defeat means that they could get relegated this weekend.
QPR have the worst record in the Premier League this season, having won only twice away from home, and they are up against a City side that have only lost twice at home this season.
While admitting his players will only have themselves to blame if they go down, manager Chris Ramsey talked of the positive spirit for their last three games.
“Our problem has been a lack of concentration to the end of games,” he said. “We’ve done this to ourselves. It is very frustrating. We have three games to save our season and I am sure the players will be rolling their sleeves up at the Etihad.
“You know Manchester City will be a good team. We are hoping that they don’t turn up and we do. There will have to be a measured balance in what we do.
“As long as there are points to be played for you have to believe you can do it. We understand we do have a big task.”
QPR have managed to score four of their last five league meetings with City, home and away and Ramsey’s men will draw some confidence from the reverse fixture when they drew 2-2 with Manchester City in West London.
Manchester City will be looking for a fourth consecutive win since their Manchester derby and are eager to finish second, as they have been unable to defend their Premier League title.
Manuel Pellegrini has warned his side against complacency, asserting that they must do everything they can to finish the season strongly.
“It’s important to finish well,” he said. “We have won three games in a row and we have three games more. It’s important for our team to win the other games.
“It doesn’t depend on our team if we are going to finish second or not because if Arsenal win all of their games, they will be second – but it’s important to finish as near to the top of the table as we can.”
Chris Ramsey has admitted that he’s down to the “bare bones” with Steven Caulker, Clint Hill and Mauricio Isla all being doubts for Sunday. Nedum Onuoha will miss out due to suspension while Rio Ferdenand is absent due to the recent death of his wife
Vicent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Jesus Navas are all back in business for City, while Samir Nasri will miss the rest of the season due to injury.
