Manchester City badly need a win at home this weekend when they face Swansea having won just one of their last three Premier League matches.
Last season’s champions have been struggling in recent matches and although they still occupy third place in the table the gap between them and table-toppers Chelsea is now at 8 points.
In this fixture last season City ran out with a comfortable 3-0 victory, but the Swans are looking like a far more formidable opponent sitting just three points behind City in the table.
Acting in City’s favour at the Etihad will be their home record against Swansea City. Of their last 10 Premier League clashes, City have won 6, lost 3 and drawn 1 against Swansea with the Swans’ only victories taking place at the Liberty Stadium.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men have had some shock home results this season however, including a loss to Stoke City at the end of August. They’ve also scored more goals away than at home and were held to a 2-2 draw by QPR last time out, a side who are currently sitting in the relegation zone. All of this suggests that the Swans may have a chance to cause an upset on Saturday.
Swansea are currently enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League season and are riding high from a 2-1 victory against Arsenal in their last outing. A victory at Old Trafford in the opening weekend is the Swans’ only away victory this season however which means that Garry Monk’s men will have a lot to prove at the Etihad.
On the injury front things are looking bleak for Pellegrini with Eliaquim Mangala, Edin Dzeko, Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Aleksandar Kolorov all unlikely to be fit for the Swansea game while David Silva remains out until at least the end of the month.
City’s injury problems will be a boost for an already confident Swansea City side whose only real injury concern Federico Fernandez (calf).
Manchester City vs Swansea Betting Tips
The bookies have City as favourite to win but a shock Swansea victory isn’t out of the question and could well be worth a bet at 7/1 at Betway.
