Tottenham Hot Spurs travel to Old Trafford this Sunday for their Premier League clash against Manchester United.

United will be eager to bounce back from their 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday night, which will leave them trophy-less for a second season in a row.

At fourth place, United hold only a two point advantage over Liverpool, while Spurs are a further point back in sixth.

Finishing in the top four is now considered essential but, with only 10 games left, United are facing a tough run of fixtures including matches against Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Spurs have bounced back from their disappointments in the Capital One Cup final and Europa League with successive Premier League wins over Swansea and QPR.

They have won at Old Trafford in the last two seasons and they are unbeaten against United in their last five meetings. However, they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 Premier League away matches.

United can ill-afford another loss to Mauricio Pochettino’s team, but the defeat against Arsenal exposed their much-discussed flaws and manager Louis van Gaal knows his side must recover quickly with a top-four finish at stake.

“All the players are very disappointed and that’s logical,” the coach said after the Arsenal defeat. “We have to see how we recover from that.

“I can’t say the motivation of the team was bad — it’s always good. We showed fantastic fighting spirit again.

“This is a big blow for us but we are sportsmen, so we have to recover.”

United’s performances of late have been all but stable and the absence of Robin van Persie – who has missed United’s last three matches due to an ankle injury – has been noticeable.

On Sunday, United will be without Angel Di Maria and Jonny Evans due to suspension. There are also continuing injury doubts over van Persie, as well as Luke Shaw and Ashley Young.

As for Spurs, they will be going into the game with a clean bill of health, meaning Pochettino has some interesting decisions to make regarding team selection.
