Novak Djokovic takes on Richard Gasquet in an unexpected matchup at the 2015 Wimbledon semi-finals on Friday.

Gasquet beat French Open champion Stan Wawrinka 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-4 11-9 in a thrilling five-set match on Wednesday. Had Wawrinka won, it would have been the first time for 20 years that all of the top four seeds had reached the last four at Wimbledon but, in an unpredictable encounter, 21st seed Gasquet came out on top in the first set, before Wawrinka took control by taking the second and third.

The game went to fifth set and the pair battled it out in an 83-minute decider, before Gasquet prevailed to reach a Wimbledon semi-final for the first time since 2007.

“It was tough, I made some mistakes but I’m happy with how I’ve played,” Gasquet said after the game. “I’ll try to play my best again against the best player in the world.”

This is only the third Grand Slam semi-final for the Frenchman, following his appearance here in 2007 and the US Open in 2013.

Meanwhile, Djokovic reached his 27th Grand Slam semi-final with his 50th win at Wimbledon, only the seventh man to reach that number of victories.

After another devastating loss at Roland Garros, many pondered whether Djokovic could recover in time to make a serious run at Wimbledon, but the Serb is in great form, seeing off Croat Marin Cilic with a 6-4 6-4 6-4 win on Centre Court on Wednesday.

“It was not easy for me mentally to bounce back, to get myself motivated. So I think it’s great in a way that we only have a couple weeks until another Grand Slam — the biggest one,” Djokovic said.

“I think the biggest difference with Richard now, comparing to the last couple years, is his fitness. I heard he worked hard to get himself really fit and ready to go the distance and it’s paying off. He always had a touch, always had the talent and loves playing on grass.”

The 28 year-old has fared well in his past meetings with Gasquet, winning 12 of their 13 previous matches.

The Serb is unbeaten in his last nine matches with the Frenchman and eased past him in their last meeting at the French Open with a straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 win.

Novak Djokovic vs Richard Gasquet Betting Tips

Djokovic leads the head-to-head with Gasquet 11-1. The world number one has won their last nine matches with eight of them being decided in straight sets.

Gasquet will come into this match brimming with confidence after beating Dimitrov, Kyrgios and Wawrinka in his last three matches, but we suspect that an in-form Djokovic will be too much for him to handle.

We are expecting Djokovic to win in straight sets priced at 8/13 with Betway.
