Bayern Munich take one step closer to a fourth consecutive Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday when they travel to Porto for the first leg of the quarter final.

Porto have had an impressive season and reached their first Champions League quarter-final in six years after a 5-1 victory over Basel.

They currently sit three points below leaders Benica in the Primeira Liga table, though they still have a chance of lifting the trophy for a 28th time,

Porto are undefeated at home in six Champions League games and have won four of their last five and Manager Julen Lopetegui has said that his side will not adopt the role of the underdog against Munich.

“We are talking about one of the best Bayern teams in the history of the club,” he said.

“We have a great respect for Bayern, but we have the ambition to be protagonists. We have a huge challenge ahead of us.”

In Porto’s favour is that Pep Guardiola’s team are in the midst of an injury crisis with David Alaba, Medhi Benatia, Javi Martinez, Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Xabi Alonso all sidelined, but history is on the side of the German champions as they are unbeaten on Portuguese soil since 1987.

Bayern have lost just one of their last 14 games in all competitions and they are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table thanks to eight victories from their previous nine matches.

After a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the semi-finals during the 2013-14 campaign, Bayern will have their sights set on making it all the way this season.

While their progress is far from secured, the five-time champions of the competition are among the favourites to lift the trophy once more.
