Man United head to Loftus Road on Saturday to face QPR in the Premier League and there’s a lot riding on the clash for both sides.

United struggled against Southampton last weekend as the Saints exposed how much work remains to be done for Louis van Gaal and his men.

The Red Devils failed to hit a single on target shot at Old Trafford, the first time that’s happened in a league game since 2009. This was all the more shocking considering that Van Gaal had a nearly fully fit squad to choose from including several of the summer’s most expensive signings. The catastrophic result for United marked Southampton’s first win at the Theatre of Dreams since 1988.

Robin van Persie limped out of United’s defeat to the Saints with an ankle injury and is likely to be ruled out of the QPR clash. This is good news for on-loan Radamel Falcao, however, who is looking to get as much play time as possible in order to secure a permanent contract in the summer.

QPR have had an extremely disappointing season, setting a new Premier League record in losing their first 10 away games this season. The Hoops most recent defeat came at the hands of Burnley who beat them 2-1, with the Clarets climbing out of the relegation zone and plunging QPR down to 19th.

Harry Redknapp’s future as QPR’s manager now hangs in the balance, with club insiders admitting that a home loss to United on Saturday could be the final straw for the under pressure manager.

Defender Steven Caulker has admitted that the players owe QPR fans a much better performance at Loftus Road this weekend, assuring them that they’ll be fighting tooth and nail for the three points against Man United.

“We know we owe our fans a performance,” he said. “We are all bitterly disappointed with the result at Burnley. We knew going into the game that it was going to be a tough battle and we flattered to deceive. We well under-performed.

“We are into the back-end of the season now and we know we have to pick up points home and away. It’s important we start getting some results.

“This United game is a big one for us. At home our form in the league has been good and we want to maintain that.”
