Real Madrid welcome city rivals Atletico Madrid to the Bernabeu on Wednesday for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Following a goal-less draw in the first leg last week, it is difficult to predict which side have the upper hand and the second leg match on Wednesday is bound to be an intense and competitive affair.

The match will be the eighth time the two sides have met since last season’s final, with Diego Simeone’s men emerging victorious on four occasions over the previous eight months.

Real Madrid have had a solid season, breezing through the group stages and winning all six of their Group B matches to finish 11 points clear of second-placed Basel.

They are in the Champions League quarter-finals for the fifth year running and have won eight of their last nine two-legged affairs at this stage.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti said, “I have the best squad in the world and we have not beaten Atletico this season because they are a very strong side with one of the most solid defences in the world. It is difficult to score goals against them.

“It will be a close game, hard-fought in all areas and intense. I do not think that Atletico will be in a hurry to score and neither will we.”

Wednesday’s task has been made considerably more difficult for Real due to an array of injuries. Gareth Bale and Luka Modric will both miss out as well as Karim Benzema and Marcelo.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, are facing fewer headaches in the lead up to this second leg and will go into the game full of confidence from their seven-game unbeaten streak against Real this season.

Atletico know what it takes to overcome Spanish opposition at this stage of the competition having beaten Barcelona in the quarter-finals last season.

They have won seven and lost five of their 16 European games against Spanish opposition, while losing only two of their last 10 Champions League games away from home, which have included some very tough fixtures.

Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann, thinks his side will follow up their strong performances against Real with a victory on rival turf and secure a spot in the last four.

“We are pleased with our performances this season against Real, but we know that we are going to suffer a lot on Wednesday,” the France international said.

“We have to forget the previous games this year. They only serve to know that we are doing the right things. We always say the games that have already been played don’t matter.”

Atletico are going into Wednesday’s match with a clean bill of health with striker Mario Mandzukic expected to shake off an ongoing ankle problem to start alongside the in-form Antoine Griezmann up front.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips

We are expecting a tight game between these two and it would not be a surprise to see extra time and beyond. Real have the home advantage, while Atlético have the advantage of just needing a score draw. It will be tough for Real if the visitors grab an away goal, because Atlético sure know how to defend.

However, Real have done well on home turf this season and we are expecting a 2-1 victory for the hosts priced at 15/2 with Paddy Power with Cristiano Ronaldo to score the first goal priced at 3/1 with Betway.
