Roma held Real Madrid to a goalless draw in the first of their International Champions Cup matches and now look set to give Manchester City a run for their money at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men are looking less than their best in Australia but are still favourites to come out victorious against Roma on Tuesday.
Rudi Garcia’s men overcame Real Madrid on penalties following a goalless draw on Saturday and, if they continue their impressive form, could well find a win against City.
The Citizens have enjoyed a 100 per cent record so far in Australia, beating bother Adelaide United and Melbourne City in friendlies, Pellegrini’s men will now have to step up their game if they expect to defeat their tougher opponents on Tuesday.
Tuesday is set to be Sterling’s first appearance for the Sky Blues despite only joining the side in the last week.
“Raheem has worked with us for three days… he will play also some minutes,” the City boss told members of the press ahead of the clash.
“It’s important for him to try to have minutes with our team. I know him because I played against him the last two seasons.
“I think he’s a very young player with a lot of ambition. And that for me is very important.”
City are without several of their more key players, leaving the team somewhat understrength, with new recruit Raheem Sterling likely to find himself one of the more experienced players on the team. Up-and-coming stars, including Brandon Barker and Manuel Garcia, will likely cover for the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva.
