Southampton host Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round clash on Saturday with both teams confident on the back of undefeated runs.

Southampton have enjoyed a 9 game unbeaten streak since they lost to Manchester United in December while Crystal Palace have enjoyed two draws and three wins since they lost 3-1 to the Saints on Boxing Day.

Southampton’s 2-1 victory against Newcastle last time out saw them move back up to third place in the Premier League table above Manchester United. Ronald Koeman credited the team’s skill and confidence for their victory and sees no end to their success this season, both in the Premier League and in the FA Cup.

“Of course, you need some luck but the spirit is unbelievable,” he said. “The confidence, like you saw [against Newcastle], they are confident in themselves. They know exactly what they have to do, and even when we do not play well we keep the organisation and that is the key to being successful.”

Since moving to Palace at the start of the year, manager Alan Pardew has enjoyed a 100% success rate which continued against Burnley last weekend. Despite going down 2-0 in the early stages of the game, the Eagles pulled it back to walk out 3-2 victors.

“It was a great win for us that gives us great momentum,” commented Pardew on the victory at Turf Moor. “These players needed a bit of a lift and belief. I know these players and I know how they click so it’s been easy for me to settle. The application can’t be faulted in the three matches that I’ve had so far.”

Although Wayne Hennessey has been used for the majority of Palace’s Cup games this year, first choice keep Julian Speroni is hoping to make an appearance against the Saints on Saturday in the fourth round clash.

“I want to play every game,” said Speroni. “Footballers, we’re not happy watching from the side.

“It’s the manager’s decision and I will respect that.”

Looking forward to the game, Speroni added, “A lot has changed [since the team’s last met a month ago], it is another important match and it will be tough obviously.

“They are playing really, really well this season. But that’s why we want to be at this level, we want to play those teams every week.”
