Southampton have drawn Championship side Ipswich for their FA Cup Round Three tie on Sunday which looks to be an exciting clash.

Despite Ipswich having endured several disappointing runs in the competition over the last few years, they’re quietly confident ahead of the match at St Mary’s following a run of eleven unbeaten games. Most recently the Championship club thrashed Charlton Athletic, leaving them in second place in the table and just one point behind Bournemouth.

The Blues’ last victory in the FA Cup third round was in 2010 when they beat Blackpool 2-1, however they went on to lose to the Saints in the fourth round.

Ipswich will have their work cut out for them against Southampton. Ronald Koeman’s men continue to make an impact in the Premier League with two wins and a draw in the Premier League in the last eight days. The Saints remain at fourth in the table, just one point behind Man United and 10 behind joint leaders Chelsea and Man City.

Koeman spent well in the summer after the club lost Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren along with head coach Mauricio Pochettino and what many predicted to be a season of struggle has mostly been one of success.

The Saints will certainly be pushing for FA Cup victory at home on Sunday as they have a great chance of going all the way this year, which would be their first Cup title since 1976.

“It’s a dream to be one day in that final,” said Koeman, “but we know we have to fight for that and that will start this Sunday.

“We would like to do well in the FA Cup, we tried to do that in the Capital One Cup as well. It’s not one game more important than the other, we go game by game and we would like to continue in the FA Cup – that’s our target.

“I watched the game against Charlton Athletic and I have to prepare the players for this Sunday, there is no difference to this game than to Arsenal or Chelsea.”
