Stan Wawrinka takes on Marin Cilic in the last of the group stage games at the ATP finals in London after a disappointing start for both players.

Wawrinka achieved an easy victory against Tomas Berdych (6-1, 6-1) but subsequently lost to Novak Djokovic (6-3, 6-0). Cilic has failed to make any real impact during his debut at the end-of-year competition, having lost both of his group games before this. The reigning US Open champion will be looking to go out on a high note against Wawrinka despite losing to the Swiss number 2 the last time they bet.

Wawrinka was unable to put up much of a fight against an in-form Djokovic on Wednesday. He took an early 2-0 lead but subsequently lost 12 of the next 13 games to lose the match.

“It was not my best match, that’s for sure,” he said of his performance against his Serbian opponent. “He’s playing really well. He’s confident. He’s not missing much. Today I think it was more about what I was doing. He put me in a position that I think a little bit too much. I was not really clear what I’m going to do, because he’s doing everything well and he’s returning well.”

Marin Cilic needed to beat Berdych to remain in the running for a semi-final spot in London but failed to do so, losing 6-3, 6-1 in 75 minutes.

“It seems that the things that I’m doing are all basically going in a wrong direction,” said Cilic. “Especially with these guys at this kind of level, even small mistakes, or if you’re not at your best performances, the outcome is not going to be going in your favour. It’s unfortunate. I was looking forward to play here, to do well, to play good matches on a high level. It’s tough to handle.”

This will be the second head-to-head between the two competitors on the professional tour this season and Cilic will be looking to even the score between them. Last time they met Cilic managed to win the first set before losing the next two 6-0, 6-1.

Stan Wawrinka vs Marin Cilic Betting Tips

Based on Marin Cilic’s current form it looks highly unlikely he’ll stand a chance on Friday. Betway has Wawrinka at 33/100 to win while Cilic is a long shot at 23/10.

The result is likely to reflect Wawrinka’s game earlier in the week against Tomas Berdych so a Wawrinka 6-1 victory in the first set is a good bet at 12/1 with Paddy Power.
