Man United are enjoying a nine game unbeaten run but failed to impress against Tottenham last time out, resulting in a 0-0 draw. Louis van Gaal’s men will be looking for victory against Stoke City on Thursday if they’re to continue challenging Chelsea and Man City for the title.
With seven victories in their last nine games United have turned around a poor start to the season and look set to kick off 2015 in style with a win at the Britannia Stadium.
Mark Hughes’ men are riding high having ended 2014 on consecutive wins against Everton (1-0) and West Bromwich Albion (2-0) but will have their work cut out for them if they are hoping to claim another three points at home on Thursday.
Robin van Persie has hit his straps at United lately notching up five goals in seven appearances and will be a clear threat against Stoke.
The hosts will be resting their scoring hopes on the shoulders of Mame Diouf who scored a brace at The Hawthorns on Sunday and will be looking to add to his tally.
This is likely to be a highly entertaining game with lots of goals, considering United have only kept a clean sheet twice when playing away this season while Mark Hughes’ men have scored in nine out of eleven of their last matches (in all competitions).
The Potters will be without full-back Phil Bardsley who remains out with an ankle injury while United’s Antonio Valencia could be side-lined after coming off with a groin problem against Tottenham. Midfielder Ander Herrera may be fit to return to Van Gaal’s side but his fitness continues to be monitored having been out with a muscle problem.
