Sunderland vs Man City | Wednesday 3 December, 2014 | Stadium of Light | 19.45

Man City will be hoping to continue closing the gap to Chelsea at the top of the table when they face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this weekend.

The Premier League Champions approach this clash on a high having beaten Southampton 3-0 at the weekend but Sunderland will also be fairly confident after holding Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light, an impressive result against the table-toppers.

The Black Cats will also be hoping to continue their record of four consecutive victories against City at Sunderland.

City will be without Eliaquim Mangala who picked up a red card in the final minutes of the victory at St Mary’s and Vincent Kompany has also been ruled out of the trip due to a hamstring injury.

This gives Manuel Pellegrini something of a defensive problem and he’ll be looking to fill one of the empty slots with Martin Demichelis and Dedryck Boyata, although right-back Bacary Sagna is another option.

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is looking forward to another opportunity to beat the Citizens at the Stadium of Light and hopes to take advantage of their defensive weaknesses on Wednesday.

“This week is exactly what you want to be involved in,” he said. “You have to play the top teams sometime so you might as well play them all together.

“Manchester City is going to be another tough game but we are up for the challenge just like we were last season, so maybe we can catch them off guard once again.

“However, you only have to look at the players they have in their squad to see it will be a difficult game.”

Sunderland may be without Sebastian Coates in defence and Billy Jones, Emanuele Giaccherini and Patrick van Aanholt remain on the sidelines due to injuries.

On top of their recent defensive issues, City remain without David Silva, Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Sunderland vs Man City Betting Tips

Sunderland’s home record against City is pretty impressive and they could be worth a bet to win at 5/1 at Ladbrokes.

More likely we’ll see City again asserting their dominance as they have been doing in recent games. Betway have a 2-1 Man City victory at 6/1 with Sergio Aguero at 3/1 to score first.
