Swansea City will be looking to continue their impressive home form when they host Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
The Swans took on West Ham last time out and appeared to get off to a strong start before a precise shot from Andy Carroll put them behind. Nevertheless they fought back to earn a point from the 1-1 final score and maintain their strong home record.
Swansea’s only home defeat this season was served up to them by Tottenham in December but Chelsea’s impressive away form could mean that Garry Monk’s men have their work cut out for them.
Monk has been increasing play time for summer purchase Bafetimbi Gomis and he thinks he could prove to be a powerful weapon over the next weeks.
“I brought Bafi in the summer and he has worked very well,” said Monk. “He has been frustrated with his game time but the games he has played he has shown his quality.
“Now he has the perfect run and you saw against West Ham the quality he has, and in the coming weeks he will be an even better player.”
Chelsea got the revenge they were seeking against Newcastle at the weekend and remain unbeaten in all but two games this season. After a slow start to the game Chelsea were able to go two up at Stamford Bridge and a draw elsewhere between City and Everton meant that the Blues regained their lead in the table.
Assistant coach Steve Holland explained that the players put in the work that was required of them to get the win, commenting, “Jose was very clear to the players what he wanted and the players did that, they responded very well.”
Chelsea Midfielder Cesc Fabregas is confident that Chelsea have put their loss at Tottenham on new Year’s Day behind them, having won both of their subsequent games against Watford (3-0) and Newcastle (2-0).
“There is never any complacency at Chelsea, we just want to win every game,” Fabregas commented. “Of course that’s not possible through the season, there are many, many games.
“We have recovered from the Christmas schedule. Losing to Tottenham was a shock, but it was one of those days.
“Things didn’t go our way, but credit to Tottenham, they played a good game. But that’s it, we are just looking to move forward now.”
