Despite a slow start to the season Newcastle’s performance has been impressive of late and Alan Pardew is keen to continue the side’s progress at Tottenham on Wednesday in the League Cup quarter-finals. Read on for our top betting tips ahead of the game.

Newcastle head to White Hart Lane in pursuit of their first trophy in 45 years but they won’t have an easy run at it with several tough opponents remaining in the competition.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men may pose something of a threat to the Magpies but Newcastle have already seen off Premier League competition in the form of Crystal Palace and Manchester City to reach this stage of the League Cup.

“We have beaten two Premier League teams away from home and now we have got to do it a third time,” said Pardew. “It will be a tough game but we will go there very strong.

“The win at Man City did give us energy, it gave us a lift and the win at Palace gave us a lift as well. One of us will be in the semi-final; both clubs would love to be in that position.”

Pardew will be without Tim Krul (ankle), Rob Elliot (thigh) and full-back Daryl Janmaat who serves a match ban but welcomes back Moussa Sissoko.

Spurs, who head into the clash boosted by a 2-1 victory at Swansea this weekend, have won the League Cup four times previously, most recently in 2008. Sunday’s victory came courtesy of Christian Eriksen who scored the winning goal in the 89th victory. Pochettino believes this result reflects the team’s unrelenting attitude and their unwillingness to give up before the game is over.

“We have a lot of young talent and we showed character and the right mentality,” the Spurs boss said. “These are our characteristics and we need to keep this feeling – never give up in football, never give up every time we’re on the field, this is important.”

Tottenham are without Emmanuel Adebayor who remains absent due to personal reasons, while Kyle Naughton (ankle) and Etienne Capoue (knock) also look unlikely to play at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Betting Tips

Newcastle may be the underdogs in this pairing but given their recent run and their ability to cause an upset (don’t forget they’re still the only side to beat Chelsea this season) they could be worth a bet at 33/10 with Betway.

If you’d rather bet with the odds then Tottenham to win with both teams to score looks good at 5/2 with Paddy Power.
