Liverpool are hoping to avoid a shock third round exit in the FA Cup when they take on Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on Monday.

The League Two side have had a mixed season but come into the clash in decent form, having won four of their last five matches in all competitions. Neal Ardley’s side will be keen to cause upset at home when they face a struggling Liverpool so the pressure will be on for the Reds.

Liverpool will travel to South West London to take on AFC Wimbledon, a repeat of the 1988 FA Cup final in which Wimbledon claimed the victory at Wembley. Although the underdogs have very little chance against their visitors, Liverpool are playing far from their best at the moment in the League, failing to beat Leicester City last time out.

Despite being unable to beat the Tigers at Anfield, Liverpool’s overall performance seems to have taken a slight upturn since losing 3-0 to Man United last month and have now gone five matches without a loss.

Wimbledon’s on-loan striker Matt Tubbs has been their top scorer so far this year with 12 goals in 22 appearances and the pressure will be on for the 30-year-old to add to his scoring tally.

Liverpool’s hopes will be resting on captain Steven Gerrard whose performances this year have been solid despite the recent announcement that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Dejan Lovren could return to the Reds for the clash while fellow defender Martin Skrtel is also available having now served a suspension. Mario Balotelli was rested for the game a Leicester and will be hoping to play at least some part in Monday’s meeting.

Liverpool have been unable to keep clean sheets in their League Cup clashes this season and could well struggle defensively in the FA Cup too, with Wimbledon having scored in 12 out of 14 of their home games this season.

Wimbledon will also be boosted by the return of Sammy Moore after he has recovered from illness.

Wimbledon vs Liverpool Betting Tips

Liverpool are the strong favourites to win but at 10/1 (Betway) many fans will be betting on Wimbledon to cause an upset.

Although this could happen, a more likely wager would be on Liverpool to win with both sides to score at 17/10, also with Betway.

Steven Gerard looks good to score first at 6/1 while Wimbledon’s hefty striker Adebayo Akinfenwa looks good to find the net at 9/2, both with Winner.
