World Cup Focus: Spain v Chile

Jake Cooper | 12 Oct 2016

Boy-oh-boy, what can we say after Spain’s humiliating defeat against Netherlands in the first Group B fixture? We just hope for Spain’s sake that they manage to find some of their flare from 4 years ago when they face Chile later today!

Our insiders reckon that the game should in fact be a very exciting one, with plenty of goals scored in the first half; and Spain certainly need some goals!

Due to the way the Group games have gone so far, Spain need a win against Chile tonight in order to remain in the World Cup. Any other result will see last World Cup’s champions eliminated and, let’s face it, utterly humiliated. Hopefully the pressure Spain must be feeling right now won’t impact on their performance too much as they need to be at their best against a strong Chilean side.

Chile’s opening game of the World Cup saw them defeat Australia 3-1 so no doubt they will prove to be a formidable opponent to Spain tonight.

Who Has the Edge?

The last time these two nations faced each other was in a pre-World Cup friendly back in late 2013. Although Chile came close to beating the champions, the result was a solid 2-2, proving how evenly matched these two teams really are.

Honestly, both teams look strong upfront but a little shaky in defence, so we reckon fans can look forward to a game featuring lots of goals with a really tight finish.

And if we really had to pick a side, our money would be on Chile, since they’re coming off the back of a win, whilst Spain might just crumble under the pressure of their need to win.
