2019 Canadian Grand Prix
Formula 1 Grand Prix racing is one of the most exciting sports to watch, and to bet on too. Coming up in June is one of the most anticipated races of the year, in the form of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Gilles-Villeneuve circuit in Montreal is a favourite among the drivers and offers plenty of action for spectators at the track and at home.
About the Track
In 1967, Montreal hosted the World’s fair and built a man-made island in the middle of the St Lawrence River. The island was subsequently used to host the 1976 Olympics, after which it was essentially abandoned. Someone then came up with the idea to build a Formula One track using the roads of the island. Thus in 1978, the first Grand Prix was held on the island, and it has been the race location ever since. The track is well known for its stop-start corners, heavy breaking and low-down force. This makes it all about technique and less about car performance.
What Happened Last Year?
Last year, Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap in qualifying and took pole position followed by Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas. Due to the nature of the track and the difficulty in overtaking, the race results were pretty much a mirror of the starting grid. Vettel went on to win the race with Bottas in second, Max Verstappen in third and Daniel Ricciardo in fourth.
The 2019 Canadian Grand Prix main race will get underway on the 9th of June. While it is still early stages in the championship, Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton have gained themselves and early lead with 87 and 86 points respectively. Sebastian Vettel is a bit behind on 52 points but with plenty of races left to make his move. Being that Vettel won the Canadian Grand Prix last year, it should be an interesting race.
If you are keen to bet on the race, the most popular bet is outright winner, or more specifically, the winning driver. It is also possible to bet on the winning constructor of the race. If you are looking for better odds, you may want to try some of the prop markets, which includes the driver to take pole position, driver to set the fastest lap, and the top 3 finishers.
